Treatment of dentin caries in an anterior tooth can be performed in one or two visits, with direct or indirect restoration of the cavity. First visit:

  • Anesthesia is applied.
  • Carious tissue is removed and the cavity is shaped.
  • If necessary, an impression is taken for indirect restoration.
  • A medicated insert is placed and the cavity is temporarily obturated.

Second visit:

  • The temporary obturation is removed.
  • The cavity is permanently obturated. The restoration code depends on the number and type of affected surfaces. This protocol describes the procedures for a two-stage treatment of dentin caries in an anterior tooth with direct or indirect obturation.
